Blue Note Owner Says He Expects Roots Blues N' BBQ To Return in 2010
(2009-09-28)
(KBIA) - While official attendance numbers from the weekend's third annual Roots N Blues N Barbeque festival in Columbia haven't been released, Blue Note owner and Thumper Entertainment representative Richard King says the festival will most likely return for a fourth season.

My intention is to do the festival next year. I think that the numbers that we are awaiting should be in support of that so I'd say there's a real real real real good chance we will return for 10-0 but I can't there's many other things we have to work out, but my intention is to bring it back, yes .

King says regardless of the added admission fees this year, the community still supports and appreciates the festival.

The people that do understand what were doing, the people that do appreciate the style of music that we're bringing to Columbia, and the whole effect of the festival don't think twice about paying for the shows and I think that was evidenced by the turnouts. I think there was some pretty nice audiences out there.

Columbia Chamber of Commerce President Don Laird agrees the admission fee was a small price to pay for what was in store.

Ten dollars is pretty nominal for the quality of the musicians that were brought in. So I don't think that anybody I had talked to felt it was an issue at all, even before or even if they didn't go.

King says more specific attendance and profit numbers may be available toward the end of the week. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
