Columbia Named One of the Best College Cities
(2009-09-10)
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
,p>Prospective college students may have an easier choice when considering whether to go to college in Columbia. According to the American Institute for Economic Research, it is one of the best college cities in the United States. The Institute ranked Columbia ninth out of 20 cities with populations under 250,000. Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman says the ranking is not only a good college recruitment tool, but is also a draw for other prospective residents.
"It's a selling point for the university, a selling point for people who are thinking about where they might want to live, where they might want to open their businesses, where they might want to retire. And so its got to be good for Columbia."
The AIES agrees the survey can be used for reasons beyond college recruitment. The ranking can help advertise Columbia's public education, businesses, recreation and arts.
