A Republican in the Missouri Senate is still trying to kill a tax incentives bill for Ford Motor Company's auto plant near Kansas City. Chuck Purgason of Howell County began a filibuster of the bill on the Senate floor since 12:45 Tuesday afternoon. So far, his marathon speech includes letters from constituents and a dialogue on American history.
"The Boston Tea Party was a symbolic event of the Revolution, but one can only speculate with a good degree of certainty that it would not have occurred if not (for) the series of historic events in the Boston and other colonies that had preceded it."
Purgason was removed Monday as chair of the Senate Fiscal Review Committee for refusing to bring the auto incentives bill up for a vote. Senate President Pro-tem Charlie Shields can end Purgason's filibuster by cutting off debate. When asked by reporters, he wouldn't say if he's planning to do that, but he did promise that the bill would pass. Purgason is also a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate.
