For the first time in the history of the North Callaway County School District, elementary school students will have access to laptop computers.
North Callaway County School officials will purchase 16 laptop computers for the fall. The district received more than 100 thousand dollars in federal stimulus money. The laptops will be used by elementary school students. Technology director Justin Loucks says younger students use desktop computers to access software, so these laptops will primarily benefit older students.
"Our older students would be doing a lot more research, and writing, and reports, and just being able to have those carts to be able to move throughout the buildings to whatever class needs them at the time, it's going to really help us to just by not having to build the extra room to house all that."
Louks says purchasing new laptops is a cheaper solution than creating new space for desktop computers. So starting this fall, teachers in Callaway County can wheel these laptops from classroom to classroom for instruction use.
