More Budget Cuts For Parents As Teachers
(2010-02-05)
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
The future is looking bleak for one of Missouri's developmental education programs. The Parents as Teachers foundation learned Wednesday that their budget is being cut by 2 million dollars, bringing the total budget decrease for the program to 28% over the last year and a half. Columbia's Parents as Teachers Representative Belinda Masters says she is not worried about the foundation shutting down. Rather, her biggest fear is the waiting list to join the program growing longer."The longer families have to wait from the time they make their enrollments with us, between that time and the time they receive their first contact from their parent educator or their first visit, the longer that takes, often times you run the risk of losing those families."
Parents and Teachers began in Missouri in 1985 and has expanded to all 50 states. In Missouri it currently serves more than 156,000 children. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
