Drivers and pedestrians on Hitt Street might have noticed the flooding this morning. An 8-inch cast iron water main broke shortly before 9:00 am. Columbia Water & Light first responders, along with the Columbia police department, had the street closed and the valve shut-off soon afterward. The street did sustain minor damage, but a spokesperson for Columbia Water and Light says Hitt Street is safe to drive on. It's patched temporarily and the street division will make permanent repairs later. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
