The president of Stephens College in Columbia is stepping down after eight years at the helm of the small liberal arts school. Marcia Kierchst turned in her resignation over the weekend. During her tenure, the college stimulated community debate when it razed some historic homes during a campus beautification effort and negotiated the sale of the Stephens Lake property to the city. The Stephens Board of Trustees plans to name a new president by early next year.
