Conference Realignment for the University of Missouri Addressed by Forsee, Curators
In a press conference following a two-day regular meeting of the curators, UM System President Gary Forsee continued to emphasize that Missouri is actively on top of efforts to strengthen the Big 12 Conference. But possibly for the first time, Forsee today referred to other possible steps that could be taken:
Rest assured, the University of Missouri has been on top of this discussion , has prepared ourselves and prepared our board of curators with knowledge and information that will allow us to continue to be sure we reinforce our role in the Big 12 but be prepared as University of Missouri to take steps necessary to be sure that we do what's in our interest over time.
The curators meeting took place amidst a media and blogger frenzy of reports about whether Missouri would leave the Big 12 Conference for membership in the Big 10 - and alongside reports of Nebraska's expected move to the Big 10 Conference and Big 12 member Colorado's move to the PAC-10.
But Missouri officials have remained tight-lipped - repeating a commitment to the Big 12 and declining to answer to speculation.
Forsee went on to say that the media should not be surprised by lack of access - he says any institution has to protect contractual arrangements that might be in place.
