New Water System for Sunrise Beach Village
(2010-04-21)
(KBIA) - A new water system is coming to the sunrise Beach village, thanks to a grant and loan of about $5 million from the US Department of Agriculture Rural Development. A bond issue one year ago asked the community if they wanted a new water system put in place, and the community voted yes. Village planner Roger Corbin says not only will this help keep the water clean and safe; it will also create new jobs for the area.

"We are going to put a lot of people to work with this. And when this system is in, with its future sewer system, we'll be able to locate a lot of brand new businesses to the area. We intend to use this for development of the west side of the lake."

Corbin says Sunrise Beach is also expecting to receive a $500,000 community development block grant. He says this grant was possible because 88% of the people affected by this new water system are of low or moderate income.

The water project is broken up into two phases. The first will include a water well starting on the left side of the lake along Route 5 south to lake road 5-36. The second phase will include well along lake road 5-36 along Route 5 south to the city limits at the Hurricane deck Bridge, and extending east along routes F and TT to property next to Doctor's landscaping.
