Missouri Senators Differ on Health Care Outcome
(2009-12-24)
(KBIA) - Democrat Claire McCaskill celebrated the Senate passage of the health care overhaul. Meanwhile Republican Kit Bond said it will hurt Missourians. Manuel Quinones reports from Washington.

Bond says the legislation is too expensive and doesn't really take care of America's health care problems.

"Raises taxes, raises the cost of private health insurance, cuts half a trillion dollars out of Medicare and will leave us further in debt without dealing with the serious problems we need to reform health care."

Bond also blasted giveaways used by the Democratic leadership to garner support. McCaskill didn't seek anything speci al for Missouri . . . saying she's against it in principle. Still, McCaskill says the legislation will cut the deficit and she rejoiced when it passed.

"Well, I'm glad the hard part is over."

It may not be. Lawmakers now have the tough task of merging the House and Senate bills, which have some significant differences.
