COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
The University of Missouri is auctioning off extra jerseys, helmets, and even gloves from this past Saturday's game against Kansas University. This year, Nike chose MU to display the Nike pro combat uniform along with 10 other schools. Chad Moller is the director of media relations for Mizzou athletics. He says the team is excited to be part of such a prestigious list. From head to toe, the uniforms were detailed and thought out with inspiration from the Civil War militia that protected Columbia and B2 bombers. The Bombers were low-observable, strategic air defense shields. Don Barnes, director of equipment operations, says the team went for a classy look. Plans began back in May to start the process of designing the uniforms and involved numerous people to get the job done, including designer Josh Iverson. Barnes says Iverson created a combination of stealth and ferociousness.null
"The word tigers comes from the Civil War, it comes form the militia that protected Columbia. He put stealth and Whiteman air force base together and says you know what lets do kind of a look modeled after a b2 bomber so as stealthy as we can make it between the helmets, the pants and the shoes"
The players will get to keep their jerseys as a memento of the game Moller says. But Barnes says any helmets that aren't bought by the players could possibly be put up for auction. Right now, all merchandise on the website is extra, not player worn. Helmets are as high as $855 right now and the auction is still open.To find out more information on the auction, visit mutigers,cstvauctions.com/gallery.cfm © Copyright 2012, KBIA
