Vaccines in time for flu season
(2009-09-28)
(WOUB) - While the world's attention has been on H1N1, regular flu hasn't gone away.

And health officials are reminding everyone of that as we enter flu season.

Doctor James Gaskell is the Athens City-County Health Commissioner.

Flu normally kills almost 36,000 people every year.

The Health Department now has regular flu vaccine for persons 18 years of age and older.

Vaccinations are being given at the Athens Health Department, but you've got to call for an appointment.

As for H1N1 shots, those will not be given until mid-October.

It's expected the H1N1 vaccine will be shipped in limited supply.

Young people and pregnant women will have priority under federal and state mandates for vaccinating those most seriously affected by this "new flu."
