Daniel Boone Building Expansion Continues
(2009-09-24)
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
Phase two of the Daniel Boone city building expansion is on-time for its scheduled completion. The new 72 thousand square foot addition will help house all Columbia government buildings in one place. Project engineer Joe Frigerio says at the new building will be by certified by Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design or LEED."During the design phase we were asked by the city to try and achieve a silver level. We indicated to them that we would do our best and we are well into the silver range. And we're kinda knocking at the door for gold, but I'm not promising gold."
Silver is the 3rd highest level in LEED; platinum being the top. Frigerio says the addition will partially be constructed with recycled materials. The engineer says builders will also include energy efficient lighting and acoustical ceilings. He says the bamboo trees used for the veneer instead of hardwood will regenerate themselves in 10 years. Frigerio says the "green" methods builders are using will save the city of Columbia money. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by 2010 - but city officials say the goal is to move the council over in January. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
