Columbia Public Schools to Receive Stimulus Money

The Columbia Public School district will receive about $6 million in stimulus funds. The money can be used over the course of two years.
Board member Ines Segert that $4 million can only be used for special needs education. Two million dollars can be used for Title 1 projects. These projects focus on lower income students. Segert says:"It's only one time funds; we have to be really careful about spending them on positions because that would be an occurring cost."
She says that the district is need of a new building for special education and childhood education. She says with stimulus funds, they will be able to provide better services for the departments. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
