After two years of construction Camdenton motorist will now be able to travel the route 5 expressway free of construction projects.
Several events including fireworks show and a car show surround the opening. Starting tonight at 10 vehicles will be able to travel on the new route. The $53 million Highway 5 project is the largest grading project MoDOT has ever put into one contract state wide, according to MoDOT's Lake of the Ozark engineers.
Bruce Mitchell is the Executive Director of the Camdenton Chamber of Congress he says the new expressway doesn't just provide for faster travel and is expected to also increase business traffic.
"What it will do it will relieve some of the traffic and congestion of trucks that past through the square in Camdenton. And any time you have new highways it increases that traffic in to the community and with that comes economic development and business growth."
The new 7 mile stretch of the Expressway through Camdenton will allow motorist to travel now an average of 65 mph to and alleviate congestion caused by summer tourist and the high school complex and also provide a safer route for travelers.
