GM Keeps Local Dealership Open
(2009-06-26)
(KBIA) -

Last May, Cupp Chevrolet owner Robert Cupp received notice that the company was closing his doors. But this week, GM officials told Cupp that his Marceline dealership would remain open. Cupp says he knows other GM dealers were not so lucky.

"It's an emotional rollercoaster. And still even today, my heart and prayers go out for those dealerships who are unsuccessful in their bid to stay in business I talked to many of them and I pray for all of them."

In Versailles, Cadle Chevrolet owner J.E. Cadle also received notice that he'd be forced to close his doors. He's appealed, but hasn't heard back from GM. He says the lack of communication is bothersome.

"It's very frustrating. We got a lot of investment here and our whole life's work here. And we've got employees here that have worked here their whole lives. And I wish I had an answer for them right now but I don't."

Cadle says he hopes the location of his dealership may be enough to overturn GM's decision.

"You're about 40 miles at least in every direction to find a dealer. You know, the next closest GM dealer when these closings take place. So we feel like there's a need right here for a GM dealer."

Cadle says the car maker has not given him a timetable regarding the review of his appeal. © Copyright 2009, KBIA
