Fischel Funding On Hold as Nixon Cuts Budget
Among the $325 million in suspended funds were $31 million for a new Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia. The governor says funding for the measure has not been vetoed, but the state will temporarily put the funding on hold until money becomes available.
The cuts come as Missouri's tax revenues have declined by more than state officials had forecast. Without spending cuts, Nixon says, it's unlikely the state can meet its budget.
