The new president of Stephens College says it is her dream to be the president of a women's college. Dianne Lynch visited Columbia today to meet with the Stephens' community and says she is happy to return to the Midwest. Lynch is currently the dean of the school of communications at Ithica College in New York. She has an extensive background in journalism and higher education, but says for the last ten years she's strived to become the president of a college. Lynch says there have been key moments in her life when a woman steered her in the right direction, so she says this is another opportunity for her to do the same."And the idea that we can be in a community that formalizes those relationships and gurantees those experiences to young women, at a time in their lives when those things can be pivitol, but also a time in our culture when some ways the challenges of being a young woman, when anything is possible when really there truly are no barriers, may be more important than ever."
Lynch says she plans on doing a lot of listening and interacting with the community once she becomes president. She takes office June second.
