Stephens College Names New President

(KBIA) - Stephens College is holding a private meet-and-greet with faculty students and staff this morning for its newly announced next president. KBIA's Maureen McCollum has more.


Dianne Lynch will become the 24th leader of the women's college on June 2nd. She is currently dean of the School of Communications at Ithaca College in New York. A statement from Stephens College says she has studied feminist history in journalism and received her Ph.D. in art history and communications. Lynch is also involved in various journalism councils and was named Journalism Teacher of the Year during her time at Saint Michael's College in Vermont. She has served as executive director of the Online News Association and was a columnist for the Christian Science Monitor. Stephens College spokesperson Amy Gibson says it became clear during the seach that Lynch stood above the other candidates.

"We enjoyed her enthusiasm, her high energy level, her passion for students' and women's education, and her creativity."

The new president is attending a private meet and greet Tuesday morning for Stephens' students, faculty, and staff. Lynch is replacing Wendy Libby, who is moving on to become the first female president of Stetson University in Florida.
