Humane Society Still a Finalist in Makeover Contest
(2009-04-14)
(KBIA) - Central Missouri Humane Society located in Columbia is still in the running for the $1 million renovation grant from the zootoo.com, a website designed to bring pet lovers together. Shelter Relations Coordinator Heather Duren-Stubbs says to get to this point they had to pass two phases. Phase one consisted of getting support online from users and gaining points. The top 20 point recipients then moved on to an in-person review from ZooToo CEO Richard Thompson. Thompson narrowed down the 20 finalists to 10, and phase three began Monday. But Duren-Stubbs says phase three isn't about CEO approval, its up to America again to decide.

"Now in phase 3 our users who had logged in previously with a picture are now voting."

Duren-Stubbs says the society is excited for the chance at the $1 million but even if they don't get it, they are still awarded $20,000 for their success in Phases 1 and 2. The society does not know yet how they will spend that money, but they will look into options after the winner is decided. Until then, Duren-Stubbs has this piece of advice.
