"For a number of years, we really haven't had that much competition within the wards. And like I said, Fulton's got four wards, and out of the four wards, three have a race, so that's kind of exciting."
Two of the three vacant seats each have two candidates vying for a spot. However, the third councilmember position has a new and uncontested candidate. The lone runner for Fulton's second-ward seat is Lowe Cannell.
"I'm pretty happy that I don't have to compete against anybody. I mean, obviously you would have to spend a little bit of money and stuff like that."
Cannell grew up in Fulton and has run a business in the city for fifteen years. He says he is running for city council because he wants to give back to his community. With a write-in vote as his only competition, chances are good he'll get to do just that. As for the other seats, Tuesday's results will tell whether Fulton has an all-new city council for the first time in more than twenty years.
