Forsee Meets With Faculty, Staff, and Adminitrators
(2009-02-20)
COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
Faculty, staff, and administrators got an opportunity today to ask U-M system President Gary Forsee questions about cutbacks at the university. Forsee held a town hall meeting in Jesse Hall. Questions largely focused on changes to the pension fund, raises, and possible furloughs. One man received applause when he asked Forsee if the money employees now have to contribute to the pension fund won't be used to fund general operating expenses. Forsee said the concern was valid We'll think about are there constrictions or some language we want to put in that at a minimum keeps it into some sort of general use compensation and salary pool so that we wouldn't be able to even go fund some new individual positions. So we'll think about that. That's been good input.
About the issue of furloughs- Forsee said he has no plans currently to institute them. He said if it does come to that, furloughs will be equally applied across the board and will not affect any group of employees more than another.
