UM Curators's Committee Recommends Furlough Power for Forsee
"Well what I want to be clear with the board is that this is a tool that is event driven'"
The Compensation and Human Resources Committee also recommended that employees pay in to the retirement plan at a rate of one percent for the first $50,000 and two percent for everything over $50,000. The retirement plan is currently funded completely by the UM system. The sub-committee's recommendations are subject to a vote by the full board at tomorrow's board of curators meeting, which continues tomorrow (Friday) morning on M-U's campus in Columbia. © Copyright 2012, KBIA

COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
The University of Missouri Board of Curators' Compensation and Human Resources committee has recommended today (Thursday) that the board give UM President Gary Forsee authority on transition assistance for employees that may be laid off from the university system
.
The assistance would include a COBRA-like extension of health care.
The committee has also recommended that Forsee be given the power to send employees on furlough, or temporary unpaid leave. The measure was amended to include a sunset provision of this power on June 30th of this year. And it requires that Forsee consult with the Board of Curators before action is taken. Forsee promised to use this power only as an event driven' measure.
