Nixon Suspends MOHELA Capital Projects
"We're working very hard to assess where we are with the Ellis Fischel project to see what alternatives we may have. We certainly will continue to work with the governor's staff and the legislature to see if there are options that open up down the road and I think the governor indicated certainly he felt that it was a quality project."
Of the thirty-one building projects, twelve are related to MU.
The suspended projects relied on an approximate 335 million dollar funding budget from the Lewis and Clark Discovery Initiative, which was authorized during the Blunt Administration in 2007.

COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
Governor Jay Nixon's administration has suspended 31 capital improvement projects because of insufficient funds from the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority, or MOHELA. Funding is suspended indefinitely for those projects at several state universities, including the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia. Ellis Fishel was expecting to receive more than 31 million dollars to help finance the 50 million dollar construction. Speaking at a press conference with Nixon today, MU Chancellor Brady Deaton said he is confident Nixon will review more ways to fund the cancer center in the future."We're working very hard to assess where we are with the Ellis Fischel project to see what alternatives we may have. We certainly will continue to work with the governor's staff and the legislature to see if there are options that open up down the road and I think the governor indicated certainly he felt that it was a quality project."
