Missouri Faces $261 Million Shortfall
(2009-01-23)
(KBIA) - Missouri is facing a 261-million-dollar shortfall in revenue for the remainder of the 2009 fiscal year. Earlier estimates showed Missouri taking in more than 8 billion dollars in tax revenues for Fiscal Year 2009, but the new numbers show the state receiving just more than $7.5 billion. Scott Holste is spokesman for Governor Jay Nixon.

"Obviously we knew that there were going to be a number of economic challenges working together with legislative leaders; we've got a clearer picture of just what the challenge is."

The estimate is a joint project of the governor's office and the House and Senate budget chairs. They also estimate that Missouri will take in around 7 and three-quarter billion dollars during the 2010 Fiscal Year, which represents a growth rate of one percent over the current fiscal year. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
