Faculty Responds to Possible MU System Cuts
"One, that students get a good education, and two, that no one lose their job. I think we can accomplish both of those things in this climate, but we're going to have to get creative. We're all, and I mean faculty, I think we're going to have to be willing to work a little harder."
Many employees are worrying about the future of their jobs on the four Missouri campuses. MU Chancellor Brady Deaton sent an e-mail yesterday saying the system has faced similar budget situations in the past, however not of this magnitude. He's asked for all employees to weigh in on how the university can stay true to its core mission.

COLUMBIA, MO
(KBIA) -
In light of the projected $340 million shortfall in the state budget, The Missouri Department of Higher Education has asked all state universities to prepare budget cut scenarios. In a letter sent yesterday by University System President Gary Forsee, he says the state has asked all colleges and schools to plan fifteen to twenty-five percent cut scenarios by December 18. This is happening at a time when faculty members are preparing for finals and trying to get grades in. MU Journalism Professor Lee Wilkins is the President of the Graduate Faculty Senate. She says the Senate will most likely weigh in on the cuts after the 18th. Wilkins says her priorities are similar to other faculty:"One, that students get a good education, and two, that no one lose their job. I think we can accomplish both of those things in this climate, but we're going to have to get creative. We're all, and I mean faculty, I think we're going to have to be willing to work a little harder."
