Missouri Faces $340 Million Budget Shortfall
(2008-12-03)
(KBIA) - It appears that Missouri Governor-elect Jay Nixon may have to cut the state's budget, due to the ongoing economic crisis. Former State Senator Wayne Goode Nixon's budget advisor, says the state is facing a revenue shortfall of more than 340 million dollars.

"In my opinion, this is a downturn like none that we've ever seen in the past, but there are so many uncertainties surrounding this downturn, that it's difficult for anyone to tell when we might come out of it."

Goode says Nixon will announce in the next few days his recommendations on how to control spending. He would not elaborate on which areas of the state budget might face cuts, but he did say they did not anticipate the need to lay off any state workers. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
