Moberly Man Dead After Being Tased
(2008-08-28)
(KBIA) - There are more questions than answers after a suspect who was tased by a Moberly police officer died. About 12:30 this morning Moberly Police pulled over a car they say was driving erratically. They discovered the driver, William Harlan, was intoxicated. When the officers tried to handcuff Harlan he resisted so they tased him. Moberly Police Commander Kevin Palmatory says Harlan still refused to comply with the officers so they tased him again.

"The subject had not been searched and therefore it was still not a safe situation that not control. He still only had one handcuff on his wrists and he was refusing to pull his hands out from under his body to effect a handcuffing."

Harlan became unresponsive after being tased a second time. The coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. The state highway patrol's division of drug and crime control is investigating the incident. In the meantime, the officers involved in the tasing have not been assigned to desk duty. The coroner was scheduled to perform an autopsy this afternoon, but according to the highway patrol the report will not be available for several days. © Copyright 2012, KBIA
