Discovery Ridge Groundbreaking
(2007-03-22)
(KBIA) - Analytical Bio-Chemistry Laboratories, Inc. became the first tenant of the University of Missouri's Discovery Ridge Research Park. The lab broke ground Wednesday on its new headquarters.

The company's new headquarters will be at Discovery Ridge Research Park located on Highway 63 just south of Columbia. The laboratory will continue to work with the university to foster research opportunities as well as possibly providing job prospects for MU graduates.
ABC Labs will focus on pharmaceutical, agricultural, animal health, and chemical development.

Kristein King, ABC Labs spokesperson, says the new facilities will not only help Discovery Ridge grow as a research park, but it will also help mid-Missouri's economy.

"It's hard to predict the future, but according to our business plan, by the year 2010 we expect to have about 500 employees. Right now our employee role, I think as of this morning, was 290."

MU biochemistry professor Charles Gehrke and two graduate students founded the company in 1968. The university is hoping that ABC Labs will attract more research firms to the Discovery Ridge Research Park in the future.
