David Dye, Host & Producer World Cafe
respoonds to KNBA listener feedback... “Thank you for letting us know about your listeners strong and justified reaction to a portion of conversation included in a recent World Café rebroadcast of an interview with the country music singer Jamey Johnson. By leaving that portion of the conversation in the interview we are guilty of ignorance and insensitivity. While I cannot speak for the artists involved, I would like to apologize to your listeners for what was an inappropriate reaction on my part. We appreciate all of our Listeners at KNBA and truly sorry to those we offended.” David Dye, Host & Producer World Cafe
Listeners bring to light Racist language used during World Cafe Interview.by Loren Dixon, Director of Programming KNBA 90.3 FMAnchorage, AKListeners called and let us know about ignorant remarks during a World Cafe interview with country singer Jamey Johnson. The program aired in late December on KNBA. The interview segment included host David Dye, Jamey Johnson and guitarist Wade Battle. A reference to '...Injuns hangin from trees...' was used by Wade Battle and the group made no acknowledgement of disapproval regarding the remarks. We felt that while Host David Dye is not directly responsible for guests comments, he is the producer of the show and could have deleted the comments rather than include them on a National broadcast. After informing David about our offense to the broadcast, KNBA received a response and are glad see that he recognizes the insensativity and ignorance of the guests comments. We've attached the segment including the comments for more context. I want to thank the listeners and Members who brought this to our attention and help hold broadcasters and producers to high standards to break the patterns of racism.
