Summit Fire 100% Contained
(2008-05-23)
(kazu) - The Summit Fire burning in the Santa Cruz Mountains is now 100% contained. This means firefighters have a fire line around the fire. They expect to be working to control it through May 30th. The fire started early in the morning on Thursday May 22nd. It has burned more than 4200 acres and destroyed 35 homes and 64 other buildings. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Governor Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara Counties. He held a press conference in Gilroy on Friday, May 23rd. You can hear it by clicking on the link above.
