U.S.
Poll: It Ain't Easy Being Green
While most Americans in a new survey say it's important to take personal responsibility for protecting the environment, the poll suggests far fewer are actually follow through on it.
A new Associated Press/NBC Universal poll finds 60% of those who were surveyed either felt a "great deal" or "a lot" of responsibility, while 37% said they rarely, if ever, think about the impact of their actions on the Earth's health.
Of those who indicated they were concerned, nearly 80% said they believe their actions are helping.
However, when asked about specific steps they might actually take, a gap emerged between what is seen as important and what people do themselves.
More than 60% of respondents say car pooling or using mass transit helps the environment, yet just half that number say they are very likely to do it. Similarly, seven in 10 people surveyed said they thought adding energy-saving insulation in their homes would be a good idea, but only half said they were very likely to do it. © Copyright 2012, Associated Press
