Wildfires have already scorched tens of thousands of acres of land this year in western states. The principle agency for fighting most of these fires is the US Forest Service, which these days devotes over half of its entire budget to suppressing them. Often that money is dipped out of other crucial programs such as fire prevention. A bill that's quickly gaining traction in Congress aims to change that. KUNC's Kirk Siegler reports.
