The current range of the Ozark hellbender is limited to 16 counties in northeastern Arkansas and south central Missouri. This salamander was recently listed as en-dangered by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service. The species is in decline due to increased siltation and water quality degradation throughout its range. The hellbender is an excellent indicator of riverine habitat and water quality. The spe-cies will be monitored to determine the future success of water quality improve-ment efforts. Improving water quality will benefit species diversity and abundance of sport and non-game fish species. The purpose of this meeting is raise support and awareness while motivating landowners to get involved in improving the health and well-being of their local Eleven Point River watershed.
