(2007-03-19)
(kamu) - The 15th Annual Caregiver's Conference presented by The Maintaining Quality of Life Committee of Texas Cooperative Extension will be held at the Brazos Center in Bryan, Texas on Wednesday April 11, 2007. The conference, titled Community of Care, will begin at 7:45 a.m. and will conclude at 5:00 p.m.

This conference is important to people throughout the Brazos Valley for a variety of reasons, said David Gest, Co-Chair of the Maintaining Quality of Life Committee. It will address a variety of topics of interest to the full spectrum of Caregivers in the area.

Continuing Education Units will be available for all professional caregivers who attend the conference. These CEUs will be available to people involved in both Nursing and Social Work disciplines. Family caregivers are also encouraged to attend to take advantage of the wide range of information that will be presented.

We have a tremendous lineup of speakers for this year's conference, said Gest. We are particularly pleased to announce that Dr. Nancy Dickey, President of the TAMU Health Science Center will be our Luncheon Keynote Speaker. Additionally, we have a return engagement from Andrew Crocker, a Gerontology Specialist from Amarillo who was a popular speaker at the conference last year.

Among the topics to be presented at the conference are:

Disability and Disaster Elder Law
Medical Preparedness: Yours, Your Family, Your Community
Alzheimers Disease and the Aging Brain
Modifications to the Home Environment to Facilitate
Oppositional Defiant Disorder Behavior
Mobility and Maintain Independence

There will also be a Community Resources Panel that will present recommendations on local resources and field questions from attendees on exactly what options exist here in the Brazos Valley. Area businesses and non-profit organizations that deal with healthcare and related subjects will be in attendance, with booths set up for easy dissemination of valuable information.

Another highlight of the Conference is the award ceremony recognizing the Caregivers of the Year in both the Professional and Volunteer/Family categories and is sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care of Bryan/College Station.

Fees for the conference are $45.00 for Professional Caregivers (before April 1, 2007) who require Continuing Education certificates and $10.00 for Family/Volunteer/Student/Childcare Caregivers who will receive Certificates of Attendance. Registration in both categories includes Breakfast and Lunch.
