The J. Wayne Stark Gallery to Introduce "Masters of Disaster"
Since Texas Task Force 1's establishment in 1997, the team has responded to some of the greatest disasters in America's history. Photographs of many of these disasters, including Hurricane Katrina and 9-11, will be on display. Artifacts include actual pieces of steel and granite from the World Trade Center and rubble from the famed Disaster City training facility. A canine demonstration will also be held at the gallery Jan. 26, from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Both an emotionally moving exhibition and a learning experience, it shows the tremendous efforts of the Texas Task Force 1 team and the risks set before its members.
Texas Task Force 1 is the state's rst and only statewide urban search and rescue team (US&R) and is administered by the Texas Engi neering Extension Service (TEEX), a mem ber of The Texas A&M University System. It is one of 28 national US&R teams under the di rection of the Federal Emergency Manage ment Agency.
The fearless individuals of Texas Task Force 1 train in the heart of Texas right here in College Station at Disaster City . , which is a 52 acre training resource that provides everything from a collapsible strip mall to a passenger train derailment. People train at Disaster City from throughout the world.
