H1N1 Flu Vaccine available from Brazos County Health Department on limited basis

H1N1 Flu Vaccine
The Brazos County Health Department continues to receive limited supplies of the H1N1 flu vaccine. The vaccine will be
administered for free at the Brazos County Health Department on Tuesday, October 27, 2009 beginning at 2:00 pm to the first
100 people meeting the priority groups listed below. Regular childhood and adult immunizations will not be provided during
this time.
Initial priority groups targeted for the H1N1 flu vaccine include:
Pregnant women
Household contacts and caregivers for children younger than 6 months of age
Healthcare and emergency medical services personnel
All people 6 months through 24 years of age
Persons 25-64 years of age who have health conditions associated with higher risk of medical complications from
influenza
The health department will offer the H1N1 vaccine to the initial priority groups during regular immunization clinic hours
beginning Wednesday, October 28, 2009 on a limited basis.
Adults and children 10 years of age and older will receive a single dose of H1N1 vaccine. Children 6 months to 9 years old
will receive two doses of the H1N1 vaccine, with 30 days between each dose.
Healthcare providers in Brazos County have begun to receive the H1N1 vaccine, as well. The public is encouraged to contact
their primary healthcare provider to determine availability.
DSHS expects to receive larger inventories of vaccine by mid-November for widespread distribution across the state. In the
meantime the health department is urging providers and the public to be patient and to follow flu prevention practices.
