Join Iowa Public Radio for four evenings of insights and stories from public radio icons ... LIVE in Des Moines! Author and commentator Frank Deford is among the most versatile of American writers. His work has appeared in virtually every medium. DeFord is the author of fifteen books; His newest, The Entitled, a novel about celebrity, sex and baseball, was published in early 2007. On radio, Deford may be heard as a commentator every Wednesday on NPR's Morning Edition and, on television, he is a regular correspondent on the HBO show RealSports With Bryant Gumbel. In magazines, he is Senior Contributing Writer at Sports Illustrated. DeFord's presentation, "SPORTS: The Hype and the Hypocrisy," touches a variety of sports subjects, including college sports, women's sports, teamwork, football concussions, the meaning of sports. DeFord infuses is presentation with history, rememberances and humorous anectdotes.
