The Boise Fire Department is calling Monday's catastrophic wildfire an accident and has closed the case. Authorities say a faulty piece of equipment combined with high winds ignited the sudden wildfire which destroyed or damaged nineteen homes and claimed the life of one Boise resident. Boise Fire Chief Dennis Doan says investigators found a melted D Ring that had dripped onto the grass. During a news conference today (Thursday) in Boise, Idaho Power's Lisa Grow held up a D Ring. She swung it back and forth, to demonstrate how the winds may have been a factor in the accident. "Because the wind is moving it around, we had the current that increased and it finally produced enough heat that it fell to the ground," Grow explained. Idaho Power Company says the D ring didn't show any damage during a 2006 inspection. Although the fire department has ended its investigation, Idaho Power is continuing to examine the fire's origin. Ten homes burned and nine were damaged along Sweetwater Drive and Immigrant Pass court. © Copyright 2009, idaho
