Check Scams BOISE, ID (idaho) - It's the oldest clich in the book, but it's worth reminding ourselves occasionally: if it's too good to be true, it is. The people at the Boise Police Department and the Better Business Bureau say an increasing number of people are falling prey to phone and internet scams. The variations keep changing, but there is a common thread to many of these con jobs. It's a check, made out to you, which pops up in your mailbox. Officials say no question about it - it's a fake.
