Professor and artist Nikki Pike is conducting the construction of a sculptural windbreak wall at the Grassroots Community Center in Joes, Colorado (south Yuma County) as part of a larger project to build a multi-use trail and xericscaped rural heritage sculpture garden. Since there were no trees available for lumber, early pioneers to the High Plains built with available resources such as clay, sand and straw or grass for sod homes and dugouts. This cob building project - using sand, clay and straw - honors historical and contemporary building practices of using natural materials you can find anywhere. DATES: June | Weekly, Sunday - Wednesday 2 day workshop = $75 4 day workshop = $125 Free for kids & High Plains Residents (Workshop fee waivers available based on need.)
