Children's books damaged at Schlow
(2003-06-05)
STATE COLLEGE, PA
(WPSU) -
There seems to be a water gremlin out to destroy children's books at State College area libraries. Last January, a broken water pipe ruined thousands of dollars worth of books at the Centre Hall Library, and now the State College Schlow Memorial Library says as many as six or seven hundred children's books were among those damaged by water from weekend storms that leaked through the library's roof and migrated via a chimney column into the children's library two floors below. The flood created problems for the library's summer reading program it opened Monday with a limited offering. The library hopes to have the children's area cleaned up and reopened by Saturday June 14.
