Shore delegation to let legislators eat cake
The Smith Island cake has been nominated by the Heritage Council to become the official dessert of the State of Maryland. The majority of Maryland's Eastern Shore Delegation is supporting the nomination.
Dana Evans, who is the owner of Classic Cakes in Salisbury, is donating over 20 of the cakes for the delivery to Annapolis on Tuesday. Evans is a Smith Island native.
Delegate Page Elmore is sponsoring the bill to make the Smith Island cake the official dessert of Maryland.
The Lower Shore tourism officials, including D-LITE Director, Jim Rapp, will then break into small groups to visit each and every member of the Maryland General Assembly, asking for their support.
